Day Time Place
April 10, 2013 Wednesday 16:00 EE01

Host: Oğuz Gülseren

ABSTRACT — We will talk about the concept of mass in classical and modern physics in the light of the recent discovery of the Higgs particle. We will explain how unbroken and broken symmetries play role in the kinematical and dynamical definitions of mass and how gravity still refuses to enter the picture.

The Physics Colloquia are designed to address a non-specialist, broad audience and introduce topics of contemporary research through lectures by leading experts. We warmly invite all members of the student body, including undergraduates enrolled in any programme.
