“Emerging schemes of femtosecond pulse generation from tunable solid-state lasers”

Prof. Dr. Alphan Sennaroğlu
Koç University

Date: May 13, 2015 (Wednesday)
Time: 15:40
Place: Physics Department Seminar Room SA 240

ABSTRACT- In the first part of the talk, I will highlight some of the “Optics milestones” which are being recognized during the 2015 International Year of Light, in particular the contributions of Young, Fresnel, and Maxwell. The second part of the talk will focus on some of our recent experiments in which nano-structured carbon saturable absorbers (single-walled carbon nanotubes, graphene, and graphene-based super capacitors) were employed as modulators to generate femtosecond pulses from tunable solid-state lasers operating in the near to mid-infrared between 1250 and 2500 nm. Data showing the nonlinear optical characteristics of the modulators as well as the mode-locked performance of the femtosecond lasers will be presented.
