“Non-Hermitian Quantum Walks and Applications”
Abstract
This talk presents non-Hermitian quantum walks and their applications in quantum optical systems. Quantum walks are realized with single-photon polarization and spatial modes, and non-Hermitian Hamiltonians are constructed via controllable gain and loss. We experimentally observe PT-symmetry breaking, exceptional-point behavior, and the non-Hermitian skin effect, confirming non-Bloch band theory. Further topics include non-Hermitian topological Anderson insulators, high-dimensional quantum walks, magnetic control of higher-order skin effects, self-acceleration from spectral geometry, quantum simulation of Yang-Lee criticality, the non-Hermitian edge burst, and enhanced sensing. Recent progress on adiabatic state transfer in purely real-spectrum submanifolds is also presented, providing systematic experimental evidence for non-Hermitian physics and its applications in quantum sensing and simulation.
Peng Xue received her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2004. After postdoctoral positions at the University of Innsbruck in Austria and the University of Calgary in Canada, she joined Southeast University in China in 2009, where she currently holds a chair professorship. Her research involves a range of topics in quantum information, quantum optics, and non-Hermitian physics.
